Sharknado Screenings Are Fun City

August 21, 2018

Getting to be a part of the pop culture phenomenon that was Sharknado back in the summer of 2013 was such a rad experience. From winning a contest to be in the flick, to losing my leg in an opening scene, to walking the red carpet with Ian Ziering and Tara Reid and my wife, I'll never forget the good times that all came from saying yes to a bunch of random stuff as soon as I moved to LA.

Fast forward five years and here we are, closing up the Sharknado legacy with a 6th movie. To be honest, I've never even seen 2 through 6, although I definitely want to. It's like I'm saving them for one day when I actually lose a leg and have to lie around for a while. Nevertheless, the spirit of the first one explodes a bit towards the end of each summer after that initial release, and it's always fun to attend screenings and shindigs for fans of the film.

Most recently, I hosted one at No Clue Brewery in Rancho Cucamonga, CA where a good flock of Sharknado lovers came out to pay their respects in unison with craft beers and drunken camaraderie. I set up a speaker and proceeded to tell stories from the set along with anecdotes about how I actually got to be in the movie, all while explaining the thousand-plus jobs I had to do as a production assistant on the movie. I even brought some snapshots from the filming to give people as mementos. We had a blast! Some friends/fans even brought some awesome homemade cardboard signs, the likes of which I never though I'd get outside of being involved in a WWE pay-per-view.

What a fun night. I hope to Sharknado screenings as a part of my life until it's over! Here are some more pics by my friend Puft.
